Gamma ERMI Testing DNA-Based Dust Analysis

A DNA-based laboratory test that analyzes a settled dust sample to identify and quantify mold species and produce an ERMI score, as a standalone service or alongside an assessment.

Understanding This Service

What Is ERMI Testing?

ERMI stands for Environmental Relative Moldiness Index. It is a DNA-based laboratory test developed using mold-specific quantitative PCR analysis. Rather than sampling the air at a single moment, ERMI analyzes a settled dust sample collected from the property, which can reflect mold conditions that have accumulated over a longer period of time.

The collected dust sample is sent to an accredited laboratory, which uses DNA-based analysis to identify and quantify a defined panel of mold species and calculate an ERMI score. This is a different method from standard air sampling, and some clients request it specifically, either as a standalone test or alongside one of the assessment packages.

Why Choose ERMI Testing?

Who It Is Designed For

Clients who specifically want a DNA-based dust analysis and an ERMI score, rather than or in addition to standard air sampling.

Why Someone Would Choose It

ERMI analyzes settled dust rather than a moment-in-time air sample, which some clients prefer for health-related concerns or when a documented ERMI score is specifically required or requested.

What Type of Property or Concern

Available for any property size or type. ERMI is a testing method, not a full inspection, so it is often booked on its own or added alongside one of the assessment packages.

How It Differs From Standard Air Sampling

Standard air sampling captures airborne spores present at the moment of testing. ERMI instead analyzes settled dust using DNA-based laboratory methods and produces a distinct ERMI score rather than an air sample count.

How Gamma ERMI Testing Works

1. Dust Sample Collection

A settled dust sample is collected from the property using the method specified by the laboratory's ERMI test kit.

2. Accredited Laboratory Analysis

The dust sample is sent to an accredited laboratory, which uses DNA-based analysis to identify and quantify a defined panel of mold species.

3. ERMI Score Delivered

The laboratory results are used to calculate an ERMI score, which is provided to the client. The full laboratory report itself is not published; results are reviewed privately.

Common Questions

Gamma ERMI Testing FAQ

What is ERMI testing?

ERMI (Environmental Relative Moldiness Index) testing uses DNA-based laboratory analysis to identify and quantify selected mold species from a collected dust sample. Unlike standard air sampling, ERMI evaluates mold DNA present in settled dust and provides an ERMI score based on the laboratory results.

How is ERMI different from standard air sampling?

Standard air sampling captures airborne mold spores present at the moment of sampling. ERMI instead analyzes settled dust that has accumulated over time, using DNA-based laboratory methods to identify and quantify specific mold species and calculate an ERMI score.

Who typically requests ERMI testing?

ERMI testing is often requested by clients who want a DNA-based dust analysis in addition to, or instead of, standard air sampling, such as for health-related concerns or when a documented ERMI score is specifically needed.

Travel Area Deposit Policy

To reserve appointments in extended service areas, including Palm Beach County, Miami-Dade County, and other locations outside our standard service area, a $75 refundable travel deposit is required at the time of scheduling.

  • The $75 is not an additional fee. It will be applied toward the total inspection cost.
  • The deposit is paid via Zelle when the appointment is scheduled.
  • If the appointment is canceled at least one calendar day before the scheduled inspection, the deposit is refunded in full.
  • Same day cancellations or missed appointments may result in forfeiture of the deposit to cover reserved travel time and scheduling.
